|
Coyote AlertCoyotes have again been spotted on the Avon Trail; this time in the North section of the trail. Please hike with a buddy and report any sightings to the Ministry of Natural Resources. November 10, 2009A coyote has been spotted on the trail close to Highway 7 & 8 near the Forest Motel. All hikers please be watchful of this in light of the attack on the hiker on the Cape Breton Trail in October. Re-RoutesRe-route from km 8.2 – km 19.5Re-route around Wildwood: Km 8.2 through to km.19.5At km. 8.2: Cross Perth Line 9 and turn Left (E.). Walk very carefully along the side of Perth Line 9, cross the bridge over Trout Creek and descend the slope to continue walking East along the fence line of the Conservation Area. Turn Right (S.) to enter a farmer’s field. Walk along the edge of the field (with the field on your left and Trout Creek on your right). At the end of one side of the field, turn Left to walk along another side of the same field. Right blazes take you through a grassy area to another field. Turn Left to walk along the edge of this second field. Near the end of this side of the field, watch for blazes to take you Left, through a grassy area, then Left again to follow an old fence line which parallels Highway 7. Use extreme caution through this area as the ground is very uneven, with lots of little hillocks, hidden by grass. A Right turn takes you through a tunnel into Wildwood Conservation Area. Follow the blazes through the Conservation Area, initially on internal roads, then onto wooded trails. At times, you’ll skirt along the sides of a couple of plowed fields, walk a short distance on an internal dirt road, then back into wooded areas again, always having Wildwood Lake on your right. The trail comes out to Zorra 29th Line on the North side of the bridge. Turn Right (S.) at the road and look for the entry of the trail on the other side of the road and before the bridge on your Left (E.). Enter the wooded area and continue following the trail eastward. RE-ROUTE IS SHOWN BY THE RED LINE
Re-route from km 27.5 – km 30.6Directions for the Bimini trail from the South to North: km 27.5 – km 30.6Exit over the stile and cross the Perth- Oxford Rd turning right; head down the hill. Enter the field on your left at the top of the hill; hiking down keeping the fence line to your left. Cross left over a bridge and turn right into the short section of deciduous trees, exiting the tree area, continue travelling along the water’s edge turning left. Enter the bush and travel along the logging trail. This area is full of deer and pheasant. You will hike past a small open area as you turn left, hiking along the bush and again turn right, heading toward a mature forest; turning left at this forest, then hike directly straight between two property lines. There should be cropped land on both sides of the trail. At the cedar post turn right; cross a short field and enter into a bush keeping to the right; turning left and then right into a larger forested area. Follow the trail, turn left, watching for the tree roots, eventually turning right and travel along a short logging road, until the trail turns left, and follows the water course curling right until you are turning left to cross the stones over the water. Turn right up the hill to travel through the trees. There should be water down below on your right and a cropped field to your left. The trail then exits at the edge of a gully; then turn right down towards the spruce trees and then back up to cross over a stile turning left through the spruce and pine bush. The trail exits from the bush on to Oxford rd 6, which you cross and turn left to approach the corner. This is Perth line 20 where you turn right to cross over the culvert with an immediate turn left down to follow the water. |
